Computing the abelian heap of unpointed stable homotopy classes of maps Abstract An algorithmic computation of the set of unpointed stable homotopy classes of equivariant fibrewise maps was described in a recent paper [4] of the author and his collaborators. In the present paper, we describe a simplification of this computation that uses an abelian heap structure on this set that was observed in another paper [5] of the author. A heap is essentially a group without a choice of its neutral element; in addition, we allow it to be empty.

متن کاملHeaps and Unpointed Stable Homotopy Theory
In this paper, we show how certain “stability phenomena” in unpointed model categories provide the sets of homotopy classes with a canonical structure of an abelian heap, i.e. an abelian group without a choice of a zero. In contrast with the classical situation of stable (pointed) model categories, these sets can be empty.
متن کامل“Chromatic ” homotopy theory
Homotopy theory deals with spaces of large but finite dimension. Chromatic homotopy theory is an organizing principle which is highly developed in the stable situation. 1. The Spanier-Whitehead category. We'll work with the category of finite polyhedra (or finite CW complexes) and homotopy classes of continuous maps between them. We will always fix a basepoint in all spaces, and assume that map...

Introduction. The Freudenthal suspension theorem implies that the set of homotopy classes of continuous maps from one finite complex to another is eventually invariant under iterated suspension of the complexes. In this "stable range" the set of homotopy classes is also well behaved in other ways. For example, it has in a natural way the structure of an abelian group. These stable groups of hom...

Determining the stable homotopy groups of spheres has been a vexing and fascinating problem in algebraic topology for the past 70 years. Recall • πn+k(S) is defined to be the set of homotopy classes of maps from S (the unit sphere in R) to S. The set has a natural abelian group structure. • πn+k(S) is known to be independent of n for n > k + 1. We denote this group by π k or πk(S ). • Here are ...
